More about Beecholme

Beecholme is also the first postwar "mixed development" housing scheme in Hackney, with a mixture of houses and flats with the taller block having five storeys and containing one-bedroom and bedsit accommodation. It is featured in Volume 15 of Hackney History and was the site of Beecholme House, the family home of Maj. John André (d. 1780), who was executed as a British spy in the American War of Independence.

Results of the first Enhanced TRA meeting

Well, we've had our first new style TRA meeting and it went very well.

The difference is simply that our estate manager has to attend 4 times a year and those meetings are the enhanced ones. It means we have access to staff without the need for separate (duplicate) estate committee meetings.
We can invite staff to any of our meetings, but any more than 4 a year is at their own discretion.

As secretary I've been asked to follow up on the work I've done selecting and pricing a bike shed as well as floor coverings for al the concrete entrance halls and stairwells throughout the estate.
Initially we were looking for projects that the EIB (Environmental Improvement Budget) could cover, but as TFL are giving grants for bike related stuff and the floor coverings come to much more than several years worth of EIB, we are still in search of projects!

I'm currently applying for grants to the tune of £40,000 for the floor coverings and between £8,000 and £12,000 for the bike shed - depending on whether we need a 10 or 20 bike shed.

I will be leafleting everyone again during the next week or so to find out how many bike places might be needed. If you get one and want a bike space, or might want one, be sure to let me know.

We also need you opinion as to where it might be placed.
The two options so far are outside the hall and on the paved area next to the park.
This is my preferred spot as it's directly under the CCTV, there's plenty of room and unlike the hall, is not likely to be re-developed anytime soon.

More to come a little later.. including photos of the bike shed and flooring samples
David.

First New Enhanced TRA meeting

Our first "Enhanced TRA meeting" is on
Wednesday 10th of October at 7pm

at the usual hall on the corner of Prout Road.

It heralds a new streamlined system for getting work done which includes the use of a new computer program called "RESPOND". If work asked for is not started within 2 weeks it is automatically flagged at a senior level.

It also should mean we, the residents have greater control and say as to where the money is spent for budgets such as the EIB (Environmental Improvement Budget) as well as the 184 Budget (reactive repairs).
We can ask for money from the EIB budget to be "matched" out of the 184 if the project is too expensive for just the EIB. This amount to several thousand pounds and if a project costs more, funds are available from other sources. It is possible for projects costing well over £10k to be within our grasp.

We can also get work done by any contractor we want as opposed to getting it done by Hackney or a Hackney Homes sub-contractor.

As long as the project is for a public access area we can do what we want!

See below for some of the suggestions and contact details

We need your suggestions as well as your democratic vote.

Why leave it up to the same 10 people to make all the decisions.
You might think differently.

You will be warmly welcomed.
