More about Beecholme

Beecholme is also the first postwar "mixed development" housing scheme in Hackney, with a mixture of houses and flats with the taller block having five storeys and containing one-bedroom and bedsit accommodation. It is featured in Volume 15 of Hackney History and was the site of Beecholme House, the family home of Maj. John André (d. 1780), who was executed as a British spy in the American War of Independence.

Cycle shelter approved by TRA

Here's is an example of what we're after.
This one is outside the Nightingale Practice in Kenninghall Rd.

Well, the Beecholme Spring newsletter secure cycle shelter ad had a good response and we now have enough residents wanting a space to warrant getting one.
It will be either a 10 or 12 bike shelter similar to this one:

It's hard to see on the photo but it is covered with a heavy transparent plastic which is vandal and graffiti proof - as well as keeping the cycles out of the weather.

The 2008 EIB (Environmental Improvement Budget) has yet to be set by Hackney Homes so there will be some delay. I hope it will be before the best of the warm cycling weather passes.

It will probably be installed outside the hall, on the bitumen. However, there are a couple of other possible sites around the estate. We will ask residents their preferred spot.

I will keep you informed of developments here.

New estate informational/instructional signage & UPDATE 21st June 2008

Above is the final artwork for the new signs.
As you can see, they're pretty close to the visual below. I think the grey border adds a touch of sophistication. Fortunately it is a Hackney Homes palette colour, as is the orange and green.
Hope you like them.
Within the next couple of weeks I hope to see all 24 new signs up around the estate.

The above is to show the alteration to the Beecholme logo rather than the design of this particular sign, namely the addition of "THE" and "ESTATE".

The general layout will probably remain the same though the colour of the background and flat no's may change.

The above is one of the "informational" signs, the "instructional" sign being signs such as "Strictly No Ball Games".

The idea is to coordinate all the estate signage both in style and colour while retaining the information/instruction delineation.

The signage was discussed recently at our TRA AGM.
I will be asking for the go-ahead for my final designs from the TRA committee members over the next week.

If you are a resident and have a view about the estate signage please
