More about Beecholme

Beecholme is also the first postwar "mixed development" housing scheme in Hackney, with a mixture of houses and flats with the taller block having five storeys and containing one-bedroom and bedsit accommodation. It is featured in Volume 15 of Hackney History and was the site of Beecholme House, the family home of Maj. John André (d. 1780), who was executed as a British spy in the American War of Independence.

New exhibition in Clapton Tram Depot

In fact, it's a new gallery as well, taking part of the first floor space the old "Tram Depot Art Gallery" used to occupy. You have to negotiate a very steep metal stairway to get up to the first floor, but the effort is well worth it.
38-40 Upper Clapton Road, E5 8BQ, just 50 yards or so north of the Lea Bridge roundabout at Clapton Pond.

07.12.12 - 21.12.12

Private View 06.12.12

Glorious Estate is an exhibition of sculptural assemblages in response to everyday objects, spaces and systems. London-based artists Anna Chrystal Stephens, Keef Winter and Carla Wright work with a practice that utilises a daily vernacular, piecing fragments together to make artworks that casually reverse artistic sentiments.

The works share a particular type of rogue handyman energy; imagining the labour of an urban drifter, maverick car-park attendant or deviant plumber. Aspects of the show include artists reworking detritus lying around the Tram Depot where Bruno Glint is located, with the intention to create a work that holds a meaning for a temporary period of time before once again returning to raw material.
A limited Allotrope Press edition 'Glorious Estate' will be produced during the show documenting the work and including essays from Hannah Newell and Holly Black. This will be launched at the closing party on the 21st December alongside performances from math-pop act Bwux and performance artist Danielle Adair. Mulled wine and Christmas treats will also be available for knock down prices, as always. £3 donation on door + DJ sets from Tom Fox (Birthday Sex) and Matty Binz til late.

Glorious Estate will include the following events in the gallery:
